ABOUT ME

Dr. Greg Phipps is a counselor, counselor educator, and consultant living in Belmont, North Carolina. A former photographer and designer, Dr. Phipps transitioned into counseling after going through his own career counseling. Since then, he has forged a path toward helping others work through mental health issues and life difficulties. He has a Master’s of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and a doctorate in Rehabilitation Counseling and Counselor Education. As a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) in North Carolina, National Certified Counselor (NCC), and Board Certified Telemental Health Provider (BC-TMH), he has a passion for serving individuals, couples, and families with a variety of mental health, rehabilitation, and wellness needs. In addition, he works in higher education as a counselor educator, preparing the next generation of counselors for excellence in practice. He leads workshops and trainings on counseling and wellness related topics and is always open to collaborating with others.

Friends and peers have called Greg a true renaissance man, mostly because of his eclectic background and appreciation for new experiences. He has a love of cultural diversity and strong bent toward social justice, which is reflected in his work with clients and research on cultural competence and racial identity development of counselors. He believes people flourish when encouraged, and enjoys helping others work through difficult life circumstances. Dr. Phipps also has a background and affinity for the benefits of technology, but feels we should unplug more often. This drives his focus on technology related misuse in counseling. He strongly believes in the power of the individual, but finds most everything is done better in community.
